The new film policy for Kannada Films was announced in the middle of March but no one in the industry is aware of this new development.
The government of Karnataka was forced to come out with a Film Policy when the noted director Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa questioned some of the criteria for selection of awards a few years ago. The government rehashed the existing policy consulting some of the bigwigs of the industry.
In the new film policy here are some of the highlights:

• • First time director award for producer and director will be Rs.50000 and silver medal.
• • The Popular film award for producer and director – Rs.50000 and silver medal
• • In all 29 category awards are listed in the film policy of 2011.
• • Supporting actor is named as Dr KS Ashwath award.
• • Dr Vishnuvardhana award is for the life time achievement personality of the Industry. It is Rs.2 lakhs award money.
• • The best Book on Cinema – Rs.20000 award and a silver medal, Rs.20000 for the publisher too.
